Henderson County Special Olympics:
The Henderson County Special Olympics was held on Monday, May 6th at LHS gym. The day started with a Parade of Schools followed by the National Anthem sung by one of our students. Schools taking part in the day were Lexington High School, Scotts Hill High School, Scotts Hill Elementary, Westover Elementary, Bargerton Elementary, South Side Elementary, Caywood Elementary, and Lexington Middle School. LHS Beta Club members partnered with a special needs student to be their person for the day. The games began with the long jump and 100 yard dash. Every special needs student participated and received ribbons while standing on the podium and having their picture taken. After the games, all the students participated in a dance party. Lunch was provided by the Special Education Dept. which included cheeseburgers from McDonalds, chips, snack cakes, and drinks. After lunch, Brantley Smith brought his equipment and donated his time to set up stations with activities so the students could have lots of fun while moving from station to station. There were lots of smiles and high fives. Thank you to all who participated, helped, watched, and donated to our very special day.

HENDERSON COUNTY MAY DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS:
On May 7 th, 2024, we had our annual county-wide field day. This year, it consisted of the seven-county schools along with Lexington Middle School in grades sixth through eighth grade. Along with those schools, sixty Lexington High School students were hand-picked to run the field day events. This year we had 1,120 students participate in twelve individual events along with eight team events. It was a
great day for everyone involved. Seeing the students competing in games and having fellowship with one another is what this event was designed to do. I want to say thank you to all hands involved in making this a special day.
Sincerely:
Coach Smith

Today we celebrate our Henderson County School Nurses!! Thank you for EVERYTHING you do for each of our students!!

Henderson County Youth Leadership wrapped up their cohort yesterday with Education Day. They spent the biggest portion of the day as ambassadors at the Middle School Career Fair hosted by our Middle School Career Coaches. They were also able to have a great round table discussion with Mr. Beecham about the future of education in Henderson County. Our students were fortunate enough to be able to attend a ribbon cutting in the afternoon with the Chamber of Commerce at Southland Safari Park where they were treated to a guided tour and animal encounters.

Lexington, TN. – Henderson County Schools announced today that Lexington High School has
been selected to win a Learning Environment grant through the TVA EnergyRight School Uplift
program. Pictured are energy team members; (Back, L to R) Kaelyn Chappel, D’Mia Armstrong, Jade Clark;

Tight budgets and aging buildings leave many schools facing a difficult decision between
funding learning programs and making needed facility upgrades that can lower energy costs
and improve health and comfort. TVA’s School Uplift program partnered with local power
companies across seven states to help 106 public schools tackle energy waste this school year.
School Uplift is a year-long energy management training program, developed with the State of
Tennessee’s Energy Efficient Schools Initiative, that helps public schools make smart energy
choices that improve the classroom learning environment and save money through decreased
energy use.
“School Uplift is another great example of TVA and Lexington Electric’s investment in our
community,” said Lauren Marchbanks. “We learned so much through this program about how to
make our school more efficient and comfortable, and I’m proud of our staff and students whose
efforts earned this grant. We plan on investing the grant money in more flexible seating for
classrooms that will improve our facility and make Lexington High School an even better place
for all students to learn and thrive.”
Lexington High School joins over 225 schools to have completed School Uplift over the past
four years, competing to earn grants for building upgrades and other learning environment
improvements. On average, participating schools save nearly 10% on their annual energy bills
from behavior changes alone.
“Every dollar invested in our schools helps districts allocate resources to where it matters most –
educating our children,” said Monika Beckner, vice president of TVA’s Energy Services &
Programs. “We’re inspired by the winners of this year’s School Uplift grants and proud of their
dedication to reducing energy waste and building a sustainable future for us all.”
Recently, TVA’s School Uplift program was recognized as a 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the
Year by ENERGY STAR, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
