Bargerton School was established in 1921. The original school had three rooms heated by a wood stove and used coal oil lamp lighting. In 1936 the school still consisted of three rooms, but a generator had been installed. They now had electricity. In 1958 county school consolidation began thus combining area students from Antioch, Mt. Gilead, Center Ridge, Bolen's Chapel, and Union Cross with Bargerton. In later years students from the Park Meals school would also join Bargerton. *We believe all information supplied for this post to be factual, but a few details could be incorrect.

Day TWO of spotlighting LHS leads us to explore the school's HISTORY! Lexington High School was formed officially by the Henderson County Court and the State Legislature in 1909.
Brenda Fidder, in her book, "Henderson County Tennessee Connections," wrote the following:
"In 1901, a good free school for all grades was recognized as being the greatest need of Lexington. "With this, we may hope to increase our population and wealth. Without this, we will hardly hold our own." In the fall of 1909, 230 students in all grades registered at Lexington Training School and Henderson County High School, a public school (later named Lexington High School). "Our building is new, commodious and comfortable, our school head as capable a man as can be found (Prof. J.O. Brown) and his corps of teachers equal to any that can be secured." Students could choose from three courses of study: Latin, Commercial, and Scientific/English."
Lexington High School has a long and rich history. We hope that you enjoy today's spotlight! There are more details for each photo on the Facebook Post.
A special thank you goes out to Mr. Phillip Renfroe for helping with photos and organizing facts and dates for this post. Phillip, your love of our community does not go unnoticed. Thank you for all you do for Henderson County. You are a blessing to the community as a whole.
