This week, our students had exciting visits to the STEM bus. They learned about the science behind hurricanes, including how they form and their impact on communities. One of the highlights was building model houses. The students used materials to construct structures designed to withstand hurricane conditions. This activity taught them important engineering principles. The real test came when they placed their houses in a hurricane simulator. They watched eagerly to see if their designs could endure the simulated high winds and heavy rains. Some houses stood strong, while others needed more reinforcement, providing valuable lessons in resilience and design. Overall, the visit was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that deepened their understanding of hurricanes and the importance of engineering in protecting communities. This is a topic that is very relevant with the recent Hurricane Helene conditions in East TN and NC.
