Lexington High School Students Receives Air Force Junior ROTC Flight
Academy Scholarships
Maxwell AFB, AL (Dec. 04, 2024) – Micah Roach and Mason Taylor, Air Force Junior ROTC
cadets at Lexington High School, have received scholarships to attend an accredited aviation university participating in a private pilot license training program in the summer of 2025.
Cadets Micah Roach and Mason Taylor are two of 194 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets around the world to receive the scholarship from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL. 1,203 cadets applied for the scholarship opportunity. There are more than 85,000 high school students enrolled in Air Force Junior ROTC at more than 830 high schools in the U.S and overseas. The scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics and flight hours required to potentially earn a private pilot license. The scholarship is valued at approximately $27,000. Cadets Roach and Taylor are 2 of 6 cadets selected from all Tennessee applicants.
Cadet Aaron Mayo, a junior Air Force Junior ROTC cadet at Lexington High School is one of 136 cadets around the world to receive an alternate slot. Cadet Mayo will receive the same opportunity if he is activated upon a training slot becoming available.
The Flight Academy Scholarship Program is an Air Force-level initiative in collaboration with the commercial aviation industry to address the national civilian and military pilot shortage. The Flight Academy allows aspiring young aviators to get their Private Pilot’s Certification, at no cost, during an eight-week summer course at partner universities. This incurs no military commitment while providing a college transcript. Those who participate in the program do not incur a military commitment to the Air Force or other branch of service, nor does completing the program guarantee acceptance into one of the military’s commissioning programs.
The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is developing citizens of character.

Congratulations to these Air Force JROTC members for being selected for Flight Academy.

We are thrilled to celebrate our talented students, Ramiah Bell and Zack Beaty, who have achieved remarkable success in the VFW Essay Competition! Each year, students showcase their creativity and patriotism by writing and recording audio essays based on a specific theme.
This year, the theme was “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?”
We are proud to announce that 10th grader Ramiah Bell has earned 1st place, while 9th grader Zack Beaty secured 2nd place!
Congratulations to both students for their hard work!
