3rd Grade
Students have explored and defined matter as anything that has mass and takes up space. In this lesson the children changed matter from liquid to solid by adjusting the temperature. They discovered that energy causes the matter to change. They also practiced following directions and measuring with accuracy.
4th Grade
In this activity, students observed a chemical change by combining a yeast mixture with hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. The resulting foam (“elephants toothpaste”) demonstrated a chemical reaction that “exploded” in student engagement.
