April McClain - South Side Elementary School
My name is April McClain. I am currently a 4th Grade Math and Science teacher at South Side Elementary School in Henderson County. I attended Lexington High School and later received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bethel University. I come from a family deeply rooted in education, with my husband, mom, brother, and sister-in-law also being educators. I have been teaching for 24.5 years. My career started at my home school of South Haven for 0.5 years. After teaching there for half a year, I moved to South Side. While at South Side, I have taught grades 4th and 5th math, 4th and 5th Science, 6th grade Reading, and I coached basketball for 16 years.
I believe in building relationships with my students by showing genuine interest in their lives beyond academics. It is important to establish connections with my students because it helps me discover ways for them to relate to the material I teach in class.
I have been married to Coach Kevin McClain for 23 years. We have two sons, Riley and Maddox, whom we have loved watching grow up and play sports. In my personal time, I enjoy reading, watching the Florida Gators, and spending time with my family.
